My aunt said something at breakfast the other day about how second graders should be learning how to program computers.

EDIT:

Okay I’m done.

All I meant by this post- this rant- was that my aunt was trying to push my buttons. I know I touched on this in an ask, and I reblogged this yesterday saying the same thing.

I think it would be neat for younger people to be able to learn programming basics. And I agree with what someone said about programming maybe not being “for everyone,” just like math. It would be neat for kids to have an opportunity to explore programming basics.

In my opinion, college is for specializing. You can go through school until college to get basics out of the way and then go on to college to really work on specific skills that you want to enhance and, with those skills, make a potential living.

I was in no way trying to offend anyone or make it seem as if being in a certain grade or year means you can only have a certain amount of schooling or a certain set of skills.

I’m only human, and I was only reacting on a knee-jerk reflex I have when a family member purposefully tries to get under my skin. Which tends to lead to me saying something silly or something that gets taken the wrong way.

Original:

“Seriously. NO.

What the heck am I doing at a four year university for programming then? Painting flowers?

How ‘bout let’s not teach the elementary schoolers the college material.”
